2012 Summer Olympics are just about to begin and the sports aficionados are all eager to see the different sports and games. India is also scheduled to participate and take part in Summer Olympics 2012 that will be held in London this time from July 27 to August 12, 2012.
It has been planned by the Indian government to spend more than Rs 2500 million in order to prepare for the Olympics, including approximately Rs 200 million for the international coaches for different games and sports.
Chef De Mission of Indian contingent by IOA has been declared as Ajit Pal Singh. India will indeed send 81 athletes to London and this will be the largest contingent of India till date.
India has been qualified as the complete team of having 6 archers, 3 in the women’s recurve and 3 in men’s. Further, India has 8 quotas in the field of boxing and 5 quotas in case of badminton.
Fourteen athletes have reached the qualifying standard till now in the athletic events i.e. up to 3 athletes in every event at A standard and 1 athlete at B standard. India has even earned the University status from FINA.
Indian national field hockey with 16 members was qualified for Summer Olympics 2012 after they won the qualifying tournament against the team from France and got the score of 8-1. Also, India stands in the Pool B of men’s tournament.
It will be great to see the Indian athletes perform at the Olympics 2012. With hard work, great skills, experience and dedication, we are sure that the athletes will make India proud on the global front.
The games or sports in which Indian athletes will be taking part include Shooting, Archery, Boxing, Badminton, Athletics, Field Hockey, Rowing, Judo, Swimming, Wrestling, Weightlifting, Table Tennis and Tennis. So, with 13 sports to participate in, the Indian players will take part in a total of 54 events.
On the other hand, while there are a total of 23 women taking part, the number of men is whopping at 58. Let’s see what’s there in store for the Indian contingent at the Summer Olympics 2012.
